Welcome to Folks of the Forum

Many noteworthy Internet phenomenons create communities of fans around them, with the most popular attracting die-hard legions ready to do the bidding of their creators.

This comic is about those fans. With illustrations inspired by the popular webcomic "The Order of the Stick™", Folks of the Forum follows the story of two newbies as they join the "LFTO Networking" community at the "Red vs. Blue" website.

"Folks of the Forum" updates on Wednesdays and Sundays at 12:00 AM (PST).

Folks of the Forum: Animation #1

This video is from my first assignment in my Programming for Interactivity course. Content-wise, it's pretty crappy, but my focus here was to simply learn a few tools in Flash. My semester's schedule still looks pretty tight, but given the time, I may even animate one of my previous comics.

Any suggestions?

Please Stand By

Due to holiday shopping concerns and a need to retool my creative process, I'm delaying the next release of Folks of the Forum. I don't know how far out I'll be delaying it, but I thought I'd give you guys a heads-up.

I expect to have something done by New Year's. I'll make another post at that time if I can't meet that deadline.

Finals

Sorry about missing Monday/Tuesday's comic. I had (and still have) two Engineering finals in the morning to study for.

Good News, Bad News

Okay, I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that there is no Investigation comic today because the Cop, Shabobble, didn't send in his investigation vote (here, I remind readers of Folks of the Forum that the current arc is modeled around a modified game of Mafia). The good news is that Shabobble gets to wear the Cone of Shame this time 'round for not submitting his vote on time, and you all get a picture of that.

Result: No Investigation

(Thanks for giving me a break from comics for Thanksgiving, Shab!)

The comics should resume on Friday.

Artist's Block

Whew. That's a bit better. I never fully realized how much these multi-page updates taxed me and my writing. While I'd love to churn out the story of this comic faster, I think my ability as an artist (if you call imitating another guy's stick figures "art") has reached its limit.

On that note, I'd like to officially announce that I am looking for an artist to work with as a partner. My goal is to find someone who can effectively replace my Order of the Stick-style art with something that's "Order of the Stick-esque". I still want to evoke the simplicity that Order of the Stick has, but at the same time, I'd like to be more original about it. As a big fan of both the Order of the Stick and its artstyle, I am definitely reluctant to let it go. However, I also feel I need to do what's best for the comic. This would solve a number of problems with the comic instantly - the consistency of updates, the accuracy and range of the art, and the potential legal issues of trying to merchandise a derivative work (not that I'm anywhere near that point yet).

Anybody who wishes to apply for the position should be comfortable drawing the users of Red vs. Blue's website in a cartoony fashion, preferably willing to use a vector art program (to provide for infinite scaling), and able to communicate regularly with me via Skype. I'll need a portfolio of your work as well - that, or you could re-draw one of my older strips in your proposed style.

Submit your entries by Smack Jeeves PM or by message to my profile on redvsblue.com.

Back to School

The past few days have been full of packing, moving and recuperating from moving, so I wasn't able to get the next story comic done for tonight. There will be a guest comic done by RT users Fonix (writer) and TheBeta (artist), so I didn't leave you guys completely high and dry. The next comic's a full-pager, too, so there's that to look forward to.

Nothing To See Here

If you saw something in your RSS feed or such earlier today about Comic #31, know that it was an error. Sorry if any of you got confused. The comic will go live as scheduled at 12:00 AM (PST) on Sunday.

Running on Empty

I need to sleep. Badly. Things came up tonight that prevented from finishing the comic to my satisfaction. It's coming along, but in retrospect I probably shouldn't have written it as a double-length comic.

I don't want to leave you guys empty-handed, though, so here's a couple of items to tide you over.

A number of you should have seen this already, but here's a scene I drew as an avatar for RvB site user Valarious a while back.

And this is one of the items that will be in the next comic.

I'll try to finish the comic on the train tomorrow so I can upload it in the morning (or mid-day, to you East Coasters).
